Welcome friends, well-wishers, confidantes and other assorted acquaintances to a new installment of La Lista, the very best weekly run-down of all the live music in Buenos Aires that’s worth seeing! That’s right: we’re the originals, the genuine article, accept no substitutes. We’re the only ones to give you a look under the hood of the Buenos Aires independent music scene and point out all the gems. So let’s get to it.
(Oh, and be sure to check out our Spotify playlist with highlights from all this week’s artists. And follow us on Spotify while you’re at it!)
Bienal Arte Joven winner Agustín Donati will be officially unveiling his new album El Elefante y El Jinete with a free show at La Tangente — come check out his brand of acoustic-based folk-pop as he performs songs from the new album as well as old favorites.
8 PM | FREE | La Tangente | Honduras 5317
Now here’s a perfectly-matched lineup: come to Otra Historia Club Cultural and let yourself be taken on a tour through the darker recesses of the human psyche with the trippy, paranoid, sharp-edged music of Contenti, Telefonema, Galean.
10 PM | AR $100 | Otra Historia Club Cultural | Estomba 851
Don’t you just love it when three of your favorite live acts in town play together? The talented folks from Las Ligas Menores (hey, their album was on our best of 2018 so far list!), Amor Elefante (hey, we just published an interview with them!) and Ex-Colorado (hey we’re publishing an interview with them next Friday!) are playing this Friday evening at Niceto. We’ll see you there!
8 PM | AR $230 | Niceto Club | Niceto Vega 5510
Or head on over to POMO and check out sneering punky songstress Emily And, the otherworldly synth attack of Cadena Nacional, the macabre post-punk of Unión Soviética, and the peppy tunefuleness of Los Darwin.
10 PM | POMO, Distrito de Arte | Santa Rosa 5157
If you’d rather listen to something jazzier, we have that! Come check out Jose Gorelik’s quintet perform a set made up of tunes by authors such as George Gershwin, Walter Donaldson, Fats Waller and Billie Holliday, not to mention the prince of west-coast cool, Chet Baker.
8:30 PM | AR $200 | Celta Bar Concert – Sala Facundo Cabral – subsuelo | Sarmiento 1702
And then, because we like to provide you with a plethora of unique options to choose from, you have this show at Panda Rojo. This one combines the progressive instrumental psychedelia of EASÍ and the hard-hitting expansiveness of Rombos.
11 PM | AR $100 | Panda Rojo Espacio Cultural | Sarmiento 3096
For our third event in a row to take place somewhere on the street Sarmiento, we have a show at the CCK! This time around, a show by the mighty Tobogán Andaluz (who recently made our list of top releases of the year so far) and the excellently-monickered Bort.
8 PM | FREE | Centro Cultural Kirchner | Sarmiento 151
Double exposure! This excellent line-up features the bedroom-pop stylings of Joe Transmision,
the lo-fi experimental punk of Chaski-Boom, the irresistibly propulsive indie-rock of Deportivo Alemán and Chilean act El Bit Menos Significativo.
8 PM | AR $50 | Otra Historia Club Cultural | Estomba 851
It’s important to not just have a diverse list of live-music options to pick from, but to also keep an eye out for your own economy (what with the rapidly-devaluing currency and all!). This is why we’ve sprinkled this list with a few very affordable and even free options! Like this free show by El Príncipe Idiota at Camping! Nothing “idiota” about fiscal responsibility, if you ask me.
9 PM | FREE | Camping | Av. Pueyrredon 2501
Hijos Amigos craft expansive, complex, impressively-orchestrated musical journeys. Meteorito make evocative, intricately-arranged soulful tunes. Come check both excellent acts out at Antiguas Lunas. And hey, it’s another free entry show!
10 PM | FREE | Antiguas Lunas y el Gato Negro | Blanco Encalada 2848
We love Espacio Cultural Mi Casa and we love Ciclo Abismal. The new installment of the live show series features the witty indie-rock of SrTomate, the maddeningly catchy rock songs of MeGaFauNa, and the slinky, hard-boiled noir-ish vibes of La Noche Que Estuve A Punto De Morir.
11 PM | AR $80 | Espacio Cultural Mi Casa | Agüero 787
El Bar de Kowalski is rapidly becoming one of our favorite spots in town (by the way, did you make it out to Lebowski Fest II?). This time around, it’s hosting performances by Walter Gandini y Las Vacas Sagradas. and Albatrxs. Swing by, have a drink, enjoy some live music, and take in the super-chill vibes of the place.
11 PM | El Bar de Kowalski | Billinghurst 835
Finally for this week, we have this excellent line-up taking over La Confitería: the whimsical power-pop of El Club Audiovisual, the plucky indie-rock of Mora y los Metegoles, and the distorted, synth-laden sounds of Panchito Villa.
10 PM | Club Plasma | Piedras 1856
